It is with great concern that the Caucus for Children's Rights experienced the challenges that Tanzania faces in making a reality of child rights. On the day that the world celebrated the 20th Anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child we were present in the Tanzanian High Court to hear the judgment of a long-running case for the repeal of laws that perpetuate the round-up and detention of street children by Municipal authorities. The case has been in process for almost two years and during that time the principle of the best interests of the child and their right to live free from discrimination has been committed to in Tanzania's new Law of the Child. However, this judgment demonstrates how far we still have to go to ensure that the best interest of children prevails... __________________________________________

The CCR is seeking a proactive, experienced social entrepreneur with more than 6 years experience in the field of child rights to play a dynamic and multifaceted role. In fact, there are three intersecting roles within this position: 1. Institutional development of the Caucus for Children's Rights; 2. Child Protection programme development; 3. Communicating and campaigning. Each of these roles requires equal attention, effort and inspiration. The CCR's preferred candidate is a dynamic self-starter who can work largely unsupervised, who is experienced in group facilitation, organisational development and advocacy for child rights in Tanzania.
